Last of the Rhinestone Cowboys:
Expo 67’s Sunset Years

A part-archival, part-fictocritical research project tracing the cowboy as a mytho-historical figure through questions of migration, nationhood, and cultural memory. Beginning with the elusive memory of a childhood performance of a South Asian band covering Glen Campbell’s hit song, Rhinestone Cowboy, at the Man and His World Summer Fair in the 1980s (Île Sainte-Hélène), which has proven difficult to locate in the archive, the project treats archival absence as a pivot from which to engage historical and creative practice. Supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
